My Home Office

Cornel Warren

We have been living in our current home for five years now, and in all that time I never really had a space to call my own... at least, not all my own. When I was working outside the home I didn't really notice it because I had plenty of room to myself at the office. Then eight months ago, when I decided to work from home I started to feel unsettled. I didn't have anywhere to set up. I didn't have a place to keep my books, my external hard drives or any of the files I had been keeping at work. I didn't have a place for my to-do list.

I needed a change. At first I thought moving was the answer. We had been contemplating a move, and it seemed like a good (albeit complex and time-consuming) way to solve the problem. But the market cooled and we decided to stay put a little longer.

So I had to take matters into my own hands. I had been putting off having an office of my own for long enough.

I knew I would have to invest a little in furniture in order to really make myself at home. I decided I would not hold back in setting up my home office to match my taste and style preferences. I wanted light, femininity and a pop of color here and there.

Choosing a desk

I considered many desks when I decided to convert our guest room into my home office. I explored Pottery Barn, Arhaus, Wayfair and more. I wanted white. I wanted storage (including a filing drawer) and I definitely wanted enough room to spread out.

The desk I settled on is from IKEA. It was not too difficult to assemble, and it offers everything I wanted.

Next up, the office chair.

Choosing an Office Chair

I knew I wanted velvet and when I saw this beauty at @home, I was blown away. The color was perfect, and I was able to find art that brought it together with a soft pink. I had the gold stuff from my out of home office, and I still like it, so I added gold accents.

Make it Yours

I have to say, it felt amazing to be fully settled in an office of my very own! But there was still one family need to solve: guest accommodations. We regularly have family stay over, and I wanted to make sure we could offer them a comfortable place to stay.

I shopped around for a while, and thanks to all my Instagram friends who helped me decide, before I found the perfect pink convertible sofa. I could not believe the way it was delivered. It was completely boxed up with some assembly required, but it was easy enough for me to do on my own. The box was only about 3' x 4' with everything neatly packed in there. I was impressed.

I know how hard it can be to find things you see on blogs for sale, so I linked my sources below.
